6 of Neha Kakkar's Latest Songs - JioSaavn

Imagine growing up in a small town, singing devotional songs at neighborhood gatherings, auditioning and appearing in one of the biggest singing reality shows of the country at 15… and getting rejected in the early stages.

Now, imagine signing your first album at 18 and then almost a decade later, coming back as a judge on the same show. The show is Indian Idol, and the songstress is none other than Bollywood’s multitalented singer, actress, and dancer, Neha Kakkar. After getting rejected from Indian Idol in 2006, Kakkar launched her album with the Meet Bros just a few years later in 2008.

She reappeared on the scene in 2013 with “Dhating Naach,” an energetic hit from Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha’s Phata Poster Niklha Hero. It was the song “Sunny Sunny” from 2014 released Yaariyan, on which she also collaborated with hitmaker and rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh that guaranteed her a spot on the charts.

Since then, Kakkar has been unstoppable, singing the biggest hits, judging reality shows and collaborating with singer siblings Sonu and Tony Kakkar for non-film music. Since July 2018, Kakkar is now the only Indian artist to earn the fifth spot on YouTube’s Top Global Artists chart. With millions of YouTube views, tons of hits, and fans and performances around the world, there is no saying what’s next for the singer. Since we’re are as big fans of her music as you are, here’s a list of Neha Kakkar’s latest hits:

If you’re a fan of the original, slightly brassier Sirf Tum version, then you won’t be disappointed. As Alka Yagnik gave the original song a sensual-for-the-90s color, Neha Kakkar’s high-octane vocals help it transcend to 2018. While the lyrics are quite different from the ’90s version, and beats are pacier, more suited to the current club culture, the track still stays pretty faithful to its predecessor. This explains why the song has been on the charts since its release a few weeks ago. Not to mention, it also made Kakkar earn her top YouTube spot.

Oh Humsafar

Turns out that Yaariyan, the movie that featured “Sunny Sunny,” didn’t just give Neha Kakkar one of the biggest hits of her career so far. The song, which is an ode to a bittersweet relationship that ends in tragedy, earned more than 10 million views a day after its release. If that’s not love, then what is?

Bhangra Ta Sajda

Veere Di Wedding, which released a few months ago, was one of the first mainstream movies with an A-list female cast. Since the central plot of this movie revolved around the wedding of one of the four besties, a chunk of the album was also dedicated to shaadi songs! On this track, a familiar gidda style number, where the tune remains the same as the lyrics adapt to the situation, Kakkar sings about going out, having fun and using Tinder. 10/10!

La La La

If you weren’t paying close attention, you could easily mistake this one for a beachy, summer bop from Calvin Harris. It has the same smooth, relaxed vibes that make you want to do nothing else except to lay down in a hammock, with a drink in your hand and shades on your eyes. Not to mention, its mellow and steady thick bass beats are sure to keep you hitting on repeat on a long drive or a stressful commute. But despite its California inspiration, the vocals by Arjun Kanungo and Neha Kakkar are entirely in Punjabi, which creates an eclectic contrast. It definitely deserves a spot on your playlist.

This particular track from Fukrey Returns hits the right spots. Faced with the task of remaking the ever-popular O Meri Mehbooba from 1977 released Dharam Veer, which features vocals from none other than the singing legend Mohammed Rafi, the music directors made a rare choice. Instead of getting another singer, they incorporated Rafi’s original chorus in the new song. The combination of fresh beats and the original recorded track in the chorus has an extraordinary effect. The song is a great ride, and Kakkar’s vocals stand out even in a crowded lineup. Definitely worth a listen.
